Triathlon
In our ward at church we are doing an enrichment triathlon and I have been training most of the summer to get ready. It's a 1/4 mile swim, about a 12 mile bike, and a 3 mile run. I'm getting a little freaked out. I finally figured out how to swim ( at least stick my face under water without choking) thanks to my big brother Eric's pointers on how he learned. I just have this idea in my head that I'll lose track of where I am in the lake and end up going in circles only to never finish this portion. Or crash my borowed bike into a mangled mess. Or there is always the possibility that I'll not even be able to walk after riding for so long. What would I do if I forgot my running shoes? Or what if I have to pee in the middle of it? I am excited for this little adventure, but I may need some advice from all you pro's out there.

One piece of advice. PEE IN THE WETSUIT. I never actually done it but the veterans say it doesn't matter how hard you try you are going to have to go as soon as the cold water hits your bladder. No sense in taking the wetsuit off. Besides once you get that over with you won't have to go until for aleast another 2 hours and by that time you will be sitting around boasting about how easy it was.
By the way if you can find, beg, borrow, rent or steal a wetsuit it is definitely the way to go for the open water swim. It is impossible to drown wearing a wetsuit and it makes for some pretty funny visuals watching people get into and out of the suits. I just forked over a few nickels to buy a TRI specific wetsuit but a 3mm surfing or waterskiing wetsuit worked just fine for the two sprints that I did earlier this year. I am a pathetic swimmer but the wetsuit makes it much easier. The floatation of the wetsuit puts my body in good position so all of the energy goes into forward motion rather than keeping yourself from drowning. The pros all say if you can wear a wetsuit, they are illegal if the water temp is over 78 degrees, DO IT. Not much chance of any water around here being that warm.
You rock....although the image of the relief society in spandex is a little disturbing!
